Fishing for a Cause Makes for a Perfect Day for GEC-3

There may be a million ways to spend a weekend after a busy work week. For some, it may be a relaxing drive, a trip to the mall, or even a lazy morning in bed. However, for the Green Earth Commercial Contracting (GEC-3) team, many busy weekends are spent helping others, as was the recent Greater Palm Harbor YMCA Fishing for a Cause Event.

The Fishing for a Cause Challenge is about expanding the art of fishing to more children in the area. Parents and their kids got together to compete in challenges for both the novice and the more experienced, attempting to win a trophy for the First Fish, Biggest Fish, and Smallest Fish. There was also a grand prize for the Most Fish Caught, Biggest Overall, and Smallest Overall.

Our president, Rick Wilson, served as co-chairman for the event. He was joined by his wife, Jessica, and his GEC-3 partner, Mike Akerson, who also volunteered for the activities. This was more than just a fun day out; it was a chance for over 100 kids to learn something they may have never tried before, how to fish, and at the same time, enjoy a memorable bonding experience with their parents. It’s these personal connections that make our community involvement so meaningful.

The Palm Harbor YMCA event has raised enough money to allow over 130 kids to build confidence in and around the water. The proceeds of the event also benefit Greater Palm Harbor YMCA’s financial assistance program, which benefits families and children who otherwise could not afford healthy Y programs and services.

For our GEC-3 team, the core values that drive us to give the best possible service to our clients extend to bringing appreciation, humbleness, and energy to our communities. To instill these values in others, we need to lead by example, which is why we have such a passion and commitment to the well-being of the communities we serve. Stay alert to more of these events so you can also share with GEC-3 and reap the rewards of helping others.
